This Week at the Lyndon Outing Club: Rita Calkins Family Night with $5 Skiing, a Free Sledding Morning, and More

This week we will be offering a couple of events that typically would be part of our Snowflake Festival offerings. Obviously because of COVID-19 we’ve had to make some changes this season, but still want to make sure we have some special offerings for the community during the school break. We are happy to announce that we will again be hosting the Rita Calkins Family Night this year and offering a morning of FREE sledding on the hill.

Remember to follow all state mandated COVID-19 policies and make sure to read our COVID-19 Operating Procedures and Health and Safety Guidelines for the Lyndon Outing Club. All visitors to the hill must sign our contact tracing form. Masks are required and must cover both the nose and mouth. The weather this week may bring some rain and ice, so these events are all weather-dependant; please check our Facebook page to see if there are any changes to the schedule.

Wednesday, February 24 – Rita Calkins Family Night / $5 Ski and Ride

We are hosting the Annual Rita Calkins Family Night again this year on Wednesday, February 24th, from 6-9 pm. Keeping in tradition, we will have free hot dogs and hot cocoa, and lift tickets will cost only $5 to ski and ride all night long. This year, instead of the fire pit, we will have several heat lamps outside to keep people warm and help spread people out for social distancing.

Rita Calkins loved her children and the town’s children. You would often see her at sporting events cheering kids on or at the Lyndon Outing Club, where she loved watching children enjoy themselves on the hill. Rita supported the LOC for over a decade through donations to help us keep the hill in operation. We began the annual Rita Calkins Family night in her honor.

We want the thank the following people for their donations this season to help us keep the hill open and to offer events like these to the community: J. A. MacDonalds in memory of Norm Brosseau, Harry and Claire Morrison, Bill and Claudia McCormack, John Wishart, Arthur, and Sheroll Charland, Laura Morrissette and Gretchen Collins. Thursday, February 25 – Free Morning Sledding Event

We will have a free sledding event on Thursday morning from 10 am to noon. If you don’t have sleds and tubes to bring, we have a limited amount available to check out for up to 30 minutes so that everyone can get some time on the hill.

Friday, February 26 – Night Skiing and Riding

We will be back open for night skiing under the stars from 6 to 9 pm.

Saturday, February 27 – Two Sessions of Skiing and Riding

Saturday is our most extended skiing and riding day of the week with two sessions. From noon to 4 pm, we will have all our trails open for skiing. There are ten trails to explore, most of which you don’t see from the base. Come out and explore the best-kept secret in the Kingdom. Lifts stop running at 4 pm and restart again at 6 pm for skiing and riding the Face under the lights until 9 pm.
